Welcome to ‘Spelling Practise,’ our dedicated resource for helping children across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 develop and consolidate their spelling abilities. Strong spelling skills are fundamental to confident reading and writing, and this section of our website provides targeted, interactive practice tailored to specific year group needs.

We understand that children learn at different paces and focus on different spelling patterns and statutory word lists as they progress through primary school. That’s why ‘Spelling Practise’ is clearly organised to support your child’s learning journey:

  • Years 1 & 2 (Key Stage 1): Focusing on foundational spelling patterns, common exception words, and the building blocks of literacy. Activities are designed to be engaging and build early confidence.
  • Years 3 & 4 (Lower Key Stage 2): Expanding on spelling rules, prefixes, suffixes, and a wider range of vocabulary, including statutory word lists for these year groups.
  • Years 5 & 6 (Upper Key Stage 2): Addressing more complex spelling patterns, ambitious vocabulary, and further statutory word lists to prepare children for secondary school and beyond.

Our interactive exercises aim to make spelling practice effective and enjoyable, reinforcing classroom learning and helping children improve their accuracy and understanding of English orthography. As of Friday, May 16, 2025, this is a great time to support your child’s ongoing literacy development.
