Welcome to ‘Rounding Practise,’ your go-to resource for developing crucial rounding skills. This page offers interactive exercises to help children master rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, and 100,000. These skills are essential for building number sense, for estimation, and for checking the reasonableness of calculations.

Understanding how to round effectively allows students to make quick and sensible approximations, a skill vital throughout their mathematical journey and in everyday problem-solving. Our ‘Rounding Practise’ sections are designed to support learners at various stages:

  • Rounding to the nearest 10 & 100: Perfect for foundational understanding (typically Years 2-4).
  • Rounding to the nearest 1000: Developing skills with larger numbers (typically Years 3-5).
  • Rounding to the nearest 10,000 & 100,000: Extending rounding capabilities for more advanced learners (typically Years 4-6).

Each section provides targeted practice to reinforce the rules of rounding and build fluency. As of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, these skills are key components of the national curriculum in England.
